Ananda Krishnan (below) and Public Bank’s Tan Sri Teh Hong Piow.
IOI
Corporation Bhd’s Tan Sri Lee Shin Cheng maintained fourth spot while
the richest Bumiputera entrepreneur in the country is Tan Sri Syed
Mokhtar Albukhary who came in fifth, according to Malaysian Business in a report on the 40 richest Malaysians.
Flamboyant AirAsia chief executive officer, Tan Sri Tony Fernandes was ranked as the 15th most richest Malaysian with a weath of RM1.77 billion.
Malaysian Business said the wealth of the top 40 richest Malaysians was based on the value of their stake in listed companies as at Jan 20, 2012.
Ananda narrowed the gap with Kuok with a wealth of RM42.99 billion, but it was down by about 6.0 per cent this year, from 2011.
Teh had a fortune that has remained relatively intact at RM12.64 billion, a one per cent decline from before.
Despite a 10.8 per cent fall in his worth to RM11.36 billion, IOI Corp’s Lee Shin Cheng maintained his fourth position while Syed Mokhtar of the Albukhary Foundation — whose flagship is the DRB-Hicom Group– saw his wealth grow by 8.0 per cent to RM9.53 billion.
The publication said that the combined wealth of Malaysia’s 40 richest individuals declined this year as the global credit crisis and weak equity markets took a toll on them.
Malaysia’s 40 richest were collectively worth RM193.2 billion as at Jan 20, a decline of 7.0 per cent compared with RM206.37 billion a year ago, said Malaysian Business in its Feb 16th issue.

Hong Leong Malaysia’s Tan Sri Quek Leng Chan, unchanged at number six, is valued 25 per cent less at RM8 billion.
Genting Group’s Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay slipped two rungs to the seventh perch at RM7.58 billion. His wealth is down by about 30 per cent.
His mother Puan Sri Lee Kim Hua, returns to the number eight spot with a fortune estimated at RM6.58 billion, down by some 11 per cent.
Tan Sri Tiong Hiew King of the Rimbunan Hijau Group and Singapore-domiciled tycon, Ong Beng Seng, maintained their ninth and tenth spots respectively.
Tiong’s wealth is estimated at RM6.41 billion while Ong’s soared by 23 per cent to RM4.92 billion.
There were three newcomers to the list, including Datuk AK Nathan of Eversendai Corporation Bhd and Ngau Boon Keat of Dialog Group Bhd, who made it for the first time while Datuk Abdul Hamed Sepawi of Ta Ann Holdings Bhd returned after a lapse of four years.
The full list of the 40 tycoons and details of their wealth appears in the magazine. It also presents a list of the 10 richest tycoons on the ACE Market. – Bernama

Vincent Tan and Robert Kuok, so what? What about the everyday Chinese, Jui Meng slams Dr M
PKR leaders slammed former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad for "rubbing salt into the wound" when he insisted that the New Economic Policy had benefited the Chinese, and then pointed to tycoons such as lottery-king Vincent Tan and sugar-king Robert Kuok.
"The average Malaysian Chinese survived and thrived in spite of
Mahathir, the BN and the NEP, and not thanks to them or Vincent Tan or
Robert Kuok. And these guys know it. As Francis Yeoh once said, even
they had to give back 30% to the BN. But it is the ordinary Chinese
youth who had to sweat and toil the extra mile just to be successful. Job opportunities
are closed to them, so are places in schools and universities. Many
have no choice but to go to Singapore and then be labelled as betrayers
back in their homeland," PKR vice president Chua Jui Meng told Malaysia Chronicle.

His other son, Kuok Khoon Ho is the Chairman of the Kuok Brothers, born in 1951 and holds Bachelor of Commerce degree, from McGill University, Canada.

UMNO Smear Campaign against Robert Kuok
Robert
Kuok is a Malaysian who have spent billions on development in this
country. When Najib wanted the Chinese Businessman's share of business
in this country, Robert Kuok gave in without protest and took his
billions to China. Today Robert Kuok is highly in demand and respected
in China. Other countries also want his expertise and money. But in
Malaysia, the UMNO Government is still jealous and envy of this
particular man. Why? The answer is simple. Robert Kuok is Chinese and
he does not have to beg the Malaysian Government for help unlike all
the Melayu millionaire and billionaire.

Kamal, yes Robert Kuok got the AP from the government because the latter
did not know how to run the sugar industry then. But Robert Kuok never
sold his APs to donkey. Plus Robert Kuok and his foundation has
spearhead many charity projects for the people and even given billions
to Mahathir each time the latter asked for donations and appeals. So
how many Melayu millionaire and billionaire has given over RM9 billions
and is still contributing to this country by giving employment. All the
Melayu business are
about bail out.

Since taking over the sugar industry, how many times has sugar price
gone up? Who are the donkeys in the sugar industry? Already these

Kamal, Robert Kuok thanked his lucky star, he managed to take his money
out from this country and stop giving donation after donation to a
corrupted government who never stop asking. In fact Robert gave more
than what he profited from the sugar industry. How many millionaire and
billionaire can you name who have given over 9 billion in cash to
Mahathir Kutty, Pak Lah and Najib? Robert also helped five millionaire
and two billionaire all from Malaysia when they lost in off shore.

Aiyo. Lets not be racist Dian. Why do you have to use race to stress
your point? What is your point anyway? Arent we all one Malaysia? We are
not just Chinese, Malay, Indian etc, but we are all Malaysian. To think
that the Malay, Malaysian government or UMNO is jealous of Robert Kuok
is absurd. Robert became who he is because of the support of the
government. Like Kamal said, he was enriched with the AP he received
none other than the UMNO government. Not only that, his brother was made
ambassador for Malaysia to various countries. Also, why would the Malay
hate him? Even his son in law and grandchildren are Malays. Tan Sri
Rashid Hussain of RHB bank was his son in law. None justify why the UMNO
or the Malay would be jealous of him. Please stop playing politics lar.
It is getting really annoying and silly seeing ignorant post and
comments like this. Fully engrossed with dirty politics from start till
finish. Ppl are not stupid anymore. We are well informed dei.

NO DOGS AND CHINESE ALLOWED
Anyway, I hope that you understand the
preceding was said in jest. I am really more interested in
contemporary examples of the same sign that can be readily authenticated.
Here is the first one that was reported about a month ago:
(Nanfang Metropolitan News via Tom.com) By Xu Linuo. May 8, 2005.
[in translation] "Chinese and dogs not allowed" is well known to be a public notice that insulted the Chinese during the semi-colonial era. But this sentence has publicly appeared in front of a factory on Yuannan Street in Lihuan District, Guangzhou. But the people at the factory did not think much of it, and they even claimed that this was 'freedom of speech.'
"Notice: All unauthorized Chinese and dogs are not permitted to enter, or else you are responsible for all the consequences. May 1". This unsigned notice was written with a chalk pen on a small blackboard hung on the gate of a factory on Yuannan Street in Lihuan District. When the reporter went there yesterday, the old factory building appears to be empty with no sign of production activities. On the outside were two stone tablets which said "Guanzhou Bicycle Axel Cover Factory" and "Guangzhou City Wuyang Bicycle Enterprises Sports Equipment Factory."
When the reporter entered the factory, she observed several males and females watching television or sleeping. Periodically, someone comes out pushing a bicycle. A female who claimed to be from Henan province told the reporter that she had been hired by the "boss" to look after this factory building to make sure that no one steals anything. She has no idea who the "boss" is as she has never seen him/her before.
The female said that she had no idea who wrote those words on the little blackboard. The reporter asked, "Don't you feel that these words insult people?" The men and women by the door laughed and said it was good fun. When the reporter pursued the question further, the female said, "This way, it will stop strangers from barging into the factory."
There was a row of motorcycles lined up outside the factory wall. So this was an open-air parking lot. While the reporter was asking questions, a man came over and took the blackboard down. The man claimed to be with the parking lot. He said, "These words were written by children." The reporter asked, "Why did you hang the words out?" But he turned around to asked the reporter, "If I want to enter your home now, would you let me in?"
The reporter asked again, "Little children don't know enough and so they write 'Chinese and dogs not allowed in.' But when the adults see that, shouldn't they lecture the children?" The man claimed, "It is the freedom of speech to write whatever you want."
About this notice, a lawyer said that freedom has to be balanced against rights. When a citizen exercise the freedom of speech, it must be legal and not discriminatory and insulting so as to infringe on the rights of others. This notice was intended to protect property, but it cannot be directed against a specific group nor equate that group of people with animals.
The above case might be taken as something of a
joke. If the reporter had a real wicked sense of humor, she should have
sent a foreigner in there and then watch what happens. "But your sign
says I can come and go as I please ..."

ACT
This article is about the former U.S. law. For the similar Canadian law, see Chinese Immigration Act of 1923.
The Chinese Exclusion Act was a United States federal law signed by Chester A. Arthur on May 6, 1882, following revisions made in 1880 to the Burlingame Treaty of 1868. Those revisions allowed the U.S. to suspend Chinese immigration, a ban that was intended to last 10 years. This law was repealed by the Magnuson Act on December 17, 1943.
